Getting Real With Weight Loss

One of the top reasons that so many of you are having trouble losing weight is that your are looking for some magic pill, supplement, or exercise program that will effortlessly melt away the fat. Even though these products or practices can help speed up your body’s ability to drop pounds, the bottom line is that unless you start eating fewer calories than you burn off, your bathroom scale is not going to budge. Anyone that tells you something differently is selling you a dream.

But why is reading about this worth your time, much less writing about it? It’s because far too many of you fall for those, admittedly, very convincing sell pitches that you see or read about all throughout the media. Will Hip-Hop Abs work for you? You bet. And so will Beachbody Fitness, Boot Camp Elite, and any other fitness program that comes along.

However, what you are not seeing from these programs is the change in diet that is required to see those results. Unless you plan to spend several hours a day in a gym, exercising alone is not going to produce the weight loss that you are looking for. What this boils down to is that getting the body of your dreams comes down to how much food you put in your mouth– once again, your diet.

And let’s face it, dieting is hard. If it wasn’t, there would not be so many products targeted towards helping you to lose those extra pounds. And when compared to exercising, which can last 30 minutes to an hour, dieting is a 24 hour, 7 day a week commitment. So by comparison, exercising is the easy part of any weight loss program, which is why it is such an easy selling point.

The real question is why is dieting so hard? The simple answer is that we don’t like change. Despite how beneficial that change may be, we like the comfort and feeling of the familiar. Unless that change offers some immediate gratification, expect some resistance.

So does this mean that you should just become content with being overweight? Hardly. The purpose of this article is to make you aware of what is truly necessary for you to lose weight and what obstacles you can expect to see. By becoming aware of these things, you can start to better focus your time and energy in overcoming these roadblocks, and not on just the good intentions of the exercise programs you use, which for many just lead to frustration.

It is my hope that the better mentally prepared and focused you are beforehand to the realities to what it truly takes to lose weight, namely changing your diet, the greater your chances of success become. After all, success does not necessarily go to the most talented, but to the one who is most prepared.
