High-fat Foods Shown To Make You Lazy And Dumb
High-fat diets have been shown to be detrimental to your health, as they can lead to heart disease, diabetes, and obesity. However, there is a prevailing notion among many who exercise vigorously that they can get away with eating these types of foods. As evidence for this, many point to their lean physique.
However, a study by Oxford University researchers has shown that rats fed a high-fat diet show a stark reduction in their physical endurance, and a decline in their cognitive ability after just nine days of eating a high-fat diet.

Moreover, after a switch from their low-fat feed to a high-fat diet, the rats were able to run only 50 percent as far on a treadmill as those that remained on the low-fat feed. Their ability to maneuver through a maze lowered as well, with the number of correct decisions before making a mistake dropping from over six to an average of 5 to 5.5.
Why Physical Endurance is Effected
To exercise for an extended period of time, oxygen must be supplied to your muscles. It also depends on how efficiently your muscles release energy from the fuel you burn from the food you eat. Using fat to fuel your workout is less efficient that using glucose from carbohydrates, which means that fueling your workouts with carbs is a more efficient way to exercise longer.
So even if you exercise at high intensity, the researcher’s finding suggest that you could go for even longer periods of time if you adhered to a low-fat diet. And the fact that performance tanked just after nine days of eating a high-fat diet suggest that prolonged dieting in this manner may continue to have deleterious effects on your body, not to mention the cognitive decline.
In short, if you want to optimize your workouts, skip the burger and fries and go for more whole-grain breads and beans. This change is probably exactly what you need to take your workout to the next level.
