Fat Loss and Meal Plan: Meal Frequency

April 15, 2008
By J White

Meal frequency is one of the single greatest weapons in your arsenal to burn fat.  Our society is full of advertising touting the latest diet pill, metabolism booster or so-called body energizer.  Yet meal frequency is a natural, effective, and proven means to achieve consistent and permanent weight loss.

In addition, study after study has demonstrated that individuals who ate at higher meal frequency showed moderate glucose excursion and reduced insulin levels.  Why is this important? High levels of glucose and insulin in your bloodstream is your body’s why of saying it’s time to start storing fat, which is the last thing we want.

By focusing and concentrating on maintaining moderately fluctuating glucose and insulin levels by eating more meals per day, you will not only burn fat faster, you’ll also have more consistent supply of energy for your body and as a bonus you’ll stay in a better mood.  Eating multiple meals throughout the day not only provides your body with a continuously supply of energy, it also provides you with a more balanced amount of serotonin, a neural transmitter for nerve cells that is known to modulate mood and emotion– yes, that’s right, a natural high.

And even though this is a great strategy to use to burn fat, you still need to eat only your daily recommended amount of calories.  So as oppose to getting your caloric needs in just three meals a day, you’re going to divide those calories into 5 to 6 meals.  Also make sure that eat meal is balanced with the proper amount of carb, protein and fat.

And if you’re thinking this is going to be time consuming, yes you’re right.  That’s why it’s better to prepare multiple meals ahead of time.  Many people, myself included prepare meals in advance to be consumed over a period of several days.  That way when it comes time to eat, the most that we have to do is place it in a microwave oven.

To save even more time, consider meal replacement powders.  With these, all you have to do is add water and shake.  There also bottles you can buy that have battery operated mixers included on the lid or you can purchase small portable mixers to do your mixing as well.  When buy meal replacement powders, be sure note how many calories that have.  Some can have 500 calories or more and unless you’re trying to gain weight, you need to stay away from those.

One final thought.  Some people make the mistake of including to many calories in each meal.  It’s very important that you stay within your caloric intake.  When used as prescribed, this is a fantastic method to speed up that fat burning process and to get that body and improved health you deserve.
