The Basics of Burning Fat and Losing Weight

To be good at anything, you’ve got to know the basics.  So it’s not much of a stretch to say that if you want to burn fat, you’ve got to at least know the basic on how to go about it.

By learning the basics you “immunize” yourself from making mistakes a lot of people make by just jumping into it.  And armed with the facts, you stand a better chance of reaching your goals than by just “winging it” as you go through the process.

So what are the basics of burning fat?  The following details the most basic components you need to know about to burn fat and to do it as quickly as possible.  Keep these concepts in mind and you’ll be miles ahead in your quest in getting the results you want and deserve. 

1.  Exercise: If you want to burn fat as quickly as your body will allow, having an exercise program is mandatory.  Many people believe that they can burn all the fat they want by dieting alone without exercising.

For those of you who fall into that category unfortunately you’re just fooling yourself.  Not only is exercising necessary, there are benefits that your body can only get from exercising such as more stamina, a stronger heart and a more well sculptured body. 

By not exercising it’s like having a Lamborghini and only driving it a 20 mph.  It’ just a waste.  Less not forgot the tons of information that available detailing the health benefits from exercising such as a lower risk of breast cancer, heart disease and other chronic diseases.  Exercising to burn fat is not only makes you body look better , but it may well by the deciding factor on if you live longer. 

How’s that?

Your heart is a muscle just like you biceps or calfs.  If you don’t exercise your muscles they become less efficient in their use.  Even though they will keep functioning enough to for you to do your daily task in most instances, you’ll miss out on that energy and that vitality of life you can gain only from exercising. 

2.  Diet: This tends to be the most challenging aspect for many when it comes to burning fat.  The majority of people out there think that we have to starve ourselves to lose weight.  This couldn’t be further from the truth.  Eating is essential if you want to losing fat.

Believe it or not your body gains more fat when you don’t eat.  When you don’t eat you are starving yourself because when you do eat again your body is going to want to store some of that food as fat in preparation for the next starvation period.  So if you want to burn fat, you need to eat. 

Of course that doesn’t mean everything in sight.  Those excess calories are what got you in trouble in the first place.  What you need to do is eat more meals each day but with smaller portions.  This little secret will do wonders for your mood and waistline. 

And like your mother may have told you, the most important meal of the day is breakfast.  When you get up in the mourning your body is coming out of starvation mode.  You need to eat a healthy breakfast to help jumpstart your metabolism normalized your insulin.  Not only does eating breakfast help rev up your metabolism which is essential for burning fat, but studies show that people who eat breakfast regular are slimmer and have more energy to start their day.

3.  Drink Water: Your body is to 60% water and as a result we need to make sure that it is adequately supplied.  What does that have to do with fat burning? Well water is involved in every bodily function and is essential in metabolizing body fat.  When you start to burn fat, water aides in the disposal of waste generated by the process and by helping to make the process more efficient.  By drinking water you help to ensure that your body is well hydrated and operating at optimum efficiency. 

Also a lot of us like to drink sodas and designer coffees throughout the day.  Innocent looking as they may appear, these beverages are packed full of calories.  And because they have such much sugar, they are quickly digested by the body which raises your insulin level. 

A higher insulin level is a signal to your body to start storing fat.  By drinking more water you’ll help to alleviate this problem by aiding your body in burning fat more efficiently and helping you to maintain a more balanced insulin level.

4.  Metabolism: Speeding up your metabolism is accomplished by the proper diet, exercising and drinking water.  Even though its benefits can be implied in the former information, It is worth mentioning by itself because of its importance in fat burning.  As we grow older our metabolism does slow down, but with proper habits, we can keep it at its maximum capacity allowable for our age.  That why a proper diet and exercise is so important. 

That’s why I periodically ask myself throughout the day what’s the three most important things to remember about burning fat? The answer of course is: Metabolism, Metabolism, Metabolism. 

5.  Lifestyle and Beliefs: Once you start viewing fat burning as a lifestyle change and not something that you’re going to do for around 3 months, your chances for success shoot up like rockets on the 4th of July. 

As with most things in life, your attitude or more precisely your core beliefs effect everything you do.  This is especially true for your self esteem.  As for weight loss, many people may believe that maintaining a proper diet and exercise regime is sufficient enough to burn fat.

What they fail to realize is that maintaining a proper diet and exercise regimen is a lot easier said than done.  By making a commitment to make an overall change in your beliefs pertaining to diet and exercise, your thoughts and feelings start to work with you and not against you. 

For example, by constantly reminding yourself on the positive benefits that will come from this new behavior you feel better about what you’re doing and when we feel good about something, you want to keep doing it.  Just make sure the reasons are your own and really strike an emotional cord with you.  The more strongly felt, the better
