Using CLA to Decrease Body Fat
We all have heard by now how trans fats are bad for us. But CLA which is a type of transfat, provides a health benefit that is opposite to the nature of most fats. By adding CLA to your diet, you can actually decrease body fat and increase lean tissue.
Unlike most fatty acids, CLA prevents the accumulation of fats in your body. Some scientist believe that it could be related to the inhibition of lipid absorption and lipogenesis, and the promotion of lipid oxidation.
In one study, a group was supplemented with 4.6 grams of CLA, while another group was supplemented with the same amount in olive oil for 12 weeks. At the end of the study, body fat percentages decreased by 3.8 percent within the CLA group, while the group consuming olive oil reported less than 1 percent reduction of body fat.
In another study the amount of CLA ingested was tested. The amount of CLA taken was 1.7, 3.4, 5.1, 6.8 grams per day with one group given olive oil for the control group. The researcher found that the reduction in body fat within the CLA group was significant for those given 3.4 and 6.8 grams of CLA. In addition, the group who consumed 6.8 grams also showed an increase in lean body mass.
Another benefit of taking CLA is that there were reports of people feeling less hungry or of more fullness after eating. This is great for those who still fill hungry after a regular meal.
So, if other supplements that you have taken in the past are not having the effect that you had envisioned, perhaps supplementing with CLA is what you need.
