Joyfully Living With Your Diet

People believe their eating sins must be paid with a penance. Torture by exercise and diet are the only alms that your conscience will accept at the altar of the perfect body.

Neurosis refers to any mental imbalance that causes emotional distress. Then for those who see losing weight as a price that must be extracted, the whole process of dieting must at times seem neurotic. Fortunately,if you remember a few simple things, this does not have to be the case.

Relax. Being overweight, while not the state you want to be in, is not the worse thing in the world. The more you fret over it, the bigger the hurdle it will appear to be to overcome. Do not give it that power over yourself. Think of it as a minor inconvenience that you will soon take care of.

Learn about good health. Most of us believe that eating healthy is something we are born knowing, even though we may not do it when we should. As such, we make foolish assumptions about what it takes to lose weight and when it does not happen, we act surprise. Just like you were not born knowing how to read or write, healthy living is not genetically programmed into you.

So do not just find a diet and follow it. Learn more about carbohydrates, proteins, fats and micronutrients. The more you know, the better your choices become when you do not have your diet there to give you guidance.

Allow yourself to have a day to eat what you want. You do not need to be perfect with your diet to lose weight. Have some pie or cake. Allow yourself to enjoy a burger every now and then. It is not going to destroy you. Besides, without a little edible decadence, life would taste bland.

Lastly, set realistic goals. You did not put on 20 pounds overnight, so do not expect to lose it in a day. To help yourself reach your goals, make use of your imagination by visually seeing yourself lose a little weight day by day over the next several weeks, or however long it takes to reach your goals. Whether its sending a man to the moon or designing the next must-have tech gadget, it all starts in the mind. So to lose weight successfully you have to, as they say, “see it to believe it.”
