Baby It’s Cold Out There – How to Stay In Shape Even When It’s Freezing
When the weather turns cold, it’s very easy to lose the motivation to stay in shape. But if you don’t want to look like one you can’t stay a couch potato until springtime. You can stay motivated to exercise during the winter months if you just get a little creative. Follow these tips to stay in shape.
- Gym or No Gym – for some being inside and staying warm is all the motivation they need to keep in shape. Even the hassle of driving to the gym, getting in and out of the car and using the locker rooms is no problem if they know they’re getting a workout in. And for some moms, going to the gym and using the babysitting services can make the difference between staying in shape or not. For others though, the thought of exercising inside just doesn’t cut it.
- Stay Warm While You Exercise – You can exercise safely outside in the winter if you just follow some precautions to stay warm. Wear layers, with moisture-wicking fabric closest to your skin. If you’re working out and you get hot, start by unzipping top layers before you start to take a layer off. Always wear a hat and gloves because most of your body’s heat is lost through the head and hands
- Set Some Goals – just because its winter doesn’t mean you can’t stay in shape. Set some exercise goals for yourself like a certain amount of time or frequency. Perhaps sign up for some event like a road race at the beginning of spring, so you know you’ll need to train to be ready for it. Or set a weight loss goal with the end prize being a trip to the beach – in your new swim suit. Whatever it is, having a “reward” will help motivate you to keep exercising throughout the winter months.
You know that exercising is important to stay in shape and to be healthy. Yet a good body and good health come from consistency. Just because it’s cold out there doesn’t mean you can take the winter off – your body won’t thank you and it will be that much harder to get back in shape come springtime. So embrace fitness as a year round concept and find the will and desire to stay in shape all year round – snow or no snow.
