How High is Too High For Your Heart Rate While Pregnant?

December 15, 2009
By Zach Smith

One way to know when a woman is pregnant is when they have a high heart rate. This is a normal occurrence since there is practically another person living inside a woman’s womb. But how high is too high?

It is imperative that a pregnant woman normalizes her heart rate for up to 150 beats per minute only. Some pregnant women still undergo exercises and workouts and the rate of their heart can get higher than that. While exercising is good to help make labor and delivery easier when the time comes, it is important to stick to the low intensity ones as the rate of your heart, when it exceeds 150 beats per minute can be too dangerous for the baby and you might overexert yourself and end up having pregnancy problems.

There are a coupe of reasons why you should maintain just the right rate of heart. First of all, if the rate of the heart of a pregnant woman increases to more than 150 beats, it means you are exerting more physical effort and this leads to a hotter body temperature. The inside of your body can get even hotter than that as it burns fat and this temperature may cause harm to the fetus. Also, as you exercise, it can cut the blood flow to the fetus to support your muscles.

It is imperative to ditch strenuous activities in the mean time and keep the rate of your heart to a maximum level of 140 beats per minute. But that depends on your physical condition. Other women with a good physical condition-those that frequently work out can have maximum level of 150 beats per minute.

But since like what I mentioned, exercise is purported to help make childbirth easier. Women who live sedentary lifestyle before and during pregnancy have more trouble giving birth normally. You should consult your obstetrician and ask what sort of low intensity activities are good for you. It is imperative that you consider the duration of exercise. Exercising, 30 minutes in a day is better for your health and your baby’s health.

Also, make sure that you exercise in an air place to help cool down your body temperature. A poorly ventilated room can cause internal body temperature to surge alarmingly. Drinking cool water is also good to help cool down internal body temperature. These are the things you a woman have to consider when she is pregnant.
