How Stay At Home Moms and Dads Can Stay Fit

Raising a family is not easy, and sometimes, the mom or the dad decides to stay at home and be the one to take care of the kids. People don’t realize how hard it is being a stay at home parent even if they are just at home. It gets so tiring that most stay at home parents tend to forget about their basic needs because they always take care of what their kids need first. But there is always a way to squeeze in some time for yourself. One basic thing that you should not forget is your fitness.

I understand that staying fit is harder when you’re taking care of a child but you can stll do that at home while taking care of your kid. The good thing about having your own home gym is that you can stop anytime. You can also have your kid join in. You can walk on the treadmill with them, especially a kid that’s still learning how to walk. Walking is a good cardio exercise and getting some exercise with your kid is also a great time to bond with them. You can get a lot of exercise with a toddler since they move around a lot and exercising with them will help with their development and your staying in shape. There are TV shows for kids that encourage them to dance and sing along so why not do the same. You can keep your child active and you get a workout yourself.

If you have kids that are pre-teens or teenagers, you can do other variety of exercises with them. Dads can do some weight training with their sons and moms can do aerobics with their daughters. You can also get the rest of the family involved by encouraging the whole family to do some team sports every weekend. Basketball, volleyball, tennis or badminton are some great sports you can get your family involved in. If that sounds a bit too much, you can always walk, run or ride a bike with them around the neighborhood. You can also pick up the kids from school this way. You not only get some exercise but you also save on gas.

Remember that children fall asleep and that your other kids go to school. During this time, you can easily squeeze in some time to workout. Take note that the equipment would have to be safe around children and easy to store so that it won’t be a risk to your children especially the younger ones.

Being a parent is a tough job especially if you’re a stay at home one, but you have to remember that you always have to find time for yourself. Staying fit helps you to be healthy so start squeezing in some exercise time for it. If you don’t take care of yourself now, you might not be able to take care of your family in the future.
