Shorter and Faster – Workouts For Men Over 50
You’ve hit and passed the big 5-0. For some it’s the first signal of old age fast approaching and for others it’s the exciting start to their second life. It’s really up to you. Which do you prefer?
Staying fit and active is a well known secret that works and that can help anyone over 50 age splendidly. There is one more thing to take into account. It seems that lack of time for movement and exercise is becoming a bigger and bigger issue in today’s hustle and bustle world. Not to worry. The shorter, faster concept can be applied to most any workout that a person can do. The traditional 60-90 minute workout may be a thing of the past for many men but that’s not to say that something shorter can’t provide a much needed energy and healthy boost.
Here’s a few examples of shorter and faster workouts.
You like to run. You like to get out for 2-4 mile runs at moderate pace. How about if you incorporate 2 days of sprint training into your workouts. A 15 minute session consisting of some combination of 10, 40, and even a few 100 yard sprints. You’ll find it a great way to add speed and explosive training to your workout along with getting your cardiovascular system beefed up in a hurry.
You’re lifting weights. The older we get the more stress heavy weight lifting can put on your body. How about mixing in some body weight exercises such as push-ups, pull ups, and bear crawls. In between sets take as short a break as possible to keep your heart beating and challenging yourself to new heights.
Shorter and faster is a great idea to mix into your workouts. Not only does it give your body a break from some of your longer routines but it also gives your mind a break and something new and refreshing to look forward to. Shorter and faster is a great alternative to be included in your workouts for men over 50.
There may still be some doubt out there. Some people still may feel that they have to spend at least 60 minutes working out to make it worth their while.
Great if you have the time and the desire, but if you say that you’re always able to get your 60 minute or more workout every time you want you are to be congratulated for your self discipline but you still might consider reconsidering.
There are days when everyone is time challenged and other days when motivation levels are low because of every day stresses and other commitments. It’s just tough some days.
On those tough days you really could use an energy boost. Wouldn’t it be better to get a short, high intensity workout rather than slogging through an unmotivated, longer workout? Success in life and in workout routines has as much to do with adapting to your situation as it does with actually getting the workout done.
Adding short, high energy spurt workouts can be an important addition to an existing workout routine or a valuable only asset to anyone’s fitness regimen. Shorter, faster workouts are definitely a valuable option to anyone’s workouts for men over 50
