5 Foods That Increase Metabolism and Burn Fat

There are certain types of foods that increase the metabolic rate in the body. These will enable you to burn the fat in your body efficiently. You can consume these foods if you are seriously considering losing weight.

The following foods increase the metabolic rate in the body:

  • Fatty Fish – Fatty Fish contains a substance called Omega 3 which is very helpful in increasing the metabolic rate in the body which in turn burns fat. It is also good for the heart and controlling and regulating the blood pressure in the body.
  • Spinach – it is a metabolism booster. Another advantage of it is that it acts as an antioxidant therefore helps prevent aging. It is also a good source of magnesium, potassium, vitamin C and iron.
  • Green tea – studies have confirmed that green tea helps to suppress appetite. Thus drinking green tea helps to burn calories and assists in weight loss. However, consuming more than five cups a day is not recommended.
  • Lean Meat – like turkey and chicken has a rich amount of protein in it which forces the body to burn fat. It also helps to build muscles. The body spends more time digesting and processing protein in the body, thus helping to burn calories.
  • Spicy foods – can boost your metabolic rate. Your body temperature can go higher and your heart rate increases a bit.

A calorie shifting diet plan may work wonders for you and you can lose weight faster in a shorter period of time. Other things need to be taken care of as well. If you eat a lot of food in one sitting, you will feel tired after that because your body needs to work towards digesting that food and cannot concentrate on other things. Therefore try and increase the number of times you eat in a day as opposed to eating a lot in one sitting. This in turn helps to boost the metabolic rate in the body while keeping your energy levels to the optimum.

Other foods that could equally help are yogurt, cottage cheese, almonds, coffee, turkey, apples, beans, jalapenos, broccoli, etc. If these fail to work you may need to consult your dietitian who can prescribe a diet regime that suits your bodily needs. Some people may be fortunate to have a high metabolic rate so they never seem to put on weight no matter how much they eat. Others work slightly differently and tend to put on weight very easily.
