Eat Three Or Less Meals a Day
LAP-BAND takes away the sense of hunger and replaces it with a sense of satiety. When the band is adjusted correctly, you will not feel hungry. You will wake up in the morning, having not eaten for more than 12 hours, and not feel hungry. You will forget mealtimes. You will not spend hours of the day thinking about food-what to have for lunch, what to buy for dinner, what you would like to have for a snack as you walk past a shop. You can get on with your day’s activities without the distraction of food. We call this the state of not being hungry, or having no appetite for food, as “satiety.”
With this sense of satiety present most of the time, you will be happy to eat no more than three times a day. You should not eat between meals-no snacks or nibbles or just a biscuit with coffee. If you are tempted to eat, resist it. If you cannot resist it, eat something healthy, such as a piece of fruit or a handful of nuts and come and tell us about this.
We don’t mind if you eat less than three times a day. If you don’t feel like having anything for breakfast, don’t have anything. Don’t believe the myth that breakfast (or any other meal) is important or essential or required for good health. Breakfast is a modern phenomenon. The Stone Age person did not eat breakfast. It was not a part of the Stone Age diet. There was no food available each day until the hunter-gatherer went out and hunted and gathered.
The Stone Age man and women could not be sure from day to day if there would be any food at all. They were programmed to cope with major variations in food intake and we all carry that same program. No significant change has occurred in this aspect of our genetic coding during the last 100,000 years. We are set up to miss meals, we are able to miss meals. So don’t fight.
