The 4 Eating Habits That Are Keeping You Fat

April 20, 2010
By J White

The reasons that you are overweight or more bluntly, fat, are not as complicated as many of the weight loss gurus or even you have convinced yourself to believe. Unless you have been diagnosed with a thyroid problem or some other disorder that effects your weight, the cause behind your ever increasing waist size is your eating habits.

Truth be told, many of you are completely oblivious to these habits. Sure you know that the habit of overeating contributes to you being fat, but if that was the only factor, then cutting back on how much you eat should easily do the trick. Unfortunately as many of you already know, it’s not quite that simple.

So if you are to have lasting success in losing weight and keeping it off, it helps to know who the true culprits are and how they are keeping you fat. It is my contention that if you just keep these facts in mind, before and when you are eating, you can start to make better decisions about what and how much you eat.

Habit 1: Large Portions) With eating of large amounts of food seemingly becoming the proper way of eating, it is of little wonder that the concept of an appropriate portion size has gone the way of the dinosaur. Habitually eating portion sizes that are too large is a mindless habit that keeps you fat.

Habit 2: Simple Carbohydrates) In its most basic form, food can be look at as a collection of chemicals or compounds. The most detrimental of these come in the form of simple carbohydrates, i.e. white flour products. Simple carbs causes a chemical reaction that raises your insulin level which makes it easier for your body to store fat.

Habit 3: Excess Fat) Fat makes food taste good and unfortunately, eating an excess amount also makes you fat. It should go without saying that the excess fat content in your food adds pounds to your hip and waist.

Habit 4: Irregular Eating Patterns) When you are extremely hungry, your blood sugar is low. Eating when your body is in this condition causes a rapid rise in your blood sugar, which has been linked to rapid weight gain. Eating at least 3 or more meals a day helps to contol this reaction.

In short, by becoming more aware of these 4 eating habits, you can now start to conciously make better decisions about how you eat. This awareness in the long run will help you to lose those excess pounds, leading you to a happier and healthier lifestyle.
