What is the Best Way to Lose 50 Pounds in 3 Months?

January 25, 2010
By George Christodoulou

Despite the thousands of weight loss ideas available in the marketplace today, there remains only one realistic option for getting rid of excess body weight and keeping it off forever. That option is found in every diet plan ever written – and at the same time it is found in none of them. If that seems contradictory, think about the diet plans you know. Now think about the fundamentals of weight loss.

Though these diet plans pay lip service to the realities of weight loss, they usually end up so far removed from first principles that they seem to have little relation to the core methods for losing weight. Most of them are far more interested in promising that you can lose 50 pounds in 3 months than they are in teaching you the essentials of living a lifestyle where you control your weight rather than your weight controlling you.

First principles matter!

The first principles of weight management have real importance in every aspect of our health. Understanding the way in which we gain and lose weight is the key to understanding what we need to do to control the process. At its core, these first principles are simple – eat more than your body can burn and you gain weight. Eat less and you lose weight. Around those core principles are all of the nuances of diet and exercise that constitute most diet programs.

Losing 50 pounds in 3 months

Getting back to the issue of losing 50 pounds in 3 months, let’s begin by pointing out that this requires losing weight at around twice the pace that most experts find to be healthy. The standard rate of weight loss is about 2 pounds a week. That rate requires a reduction of around 500 calories per day in food intake, with an additional 500 calories being burned away through exercise and other activity. At that rate, you can reasonably lose about 24-25 pounds of weight in 3 months.

To lose 50 pounds of weight in 3 months, you must double everything. Reduce calories by 1000, and increase your caloric burn by the same amount. That can help you to burn around 4 pounds of weight off each and every week – if you can sustain the diet and exercise routine necessary to accomplish the feat. Remember, this calorie reduction takes you below the very lowest levels most health experts find acceptable for calorie intake.

Alternatively, you can attempt to find a happy medium with your calorie reduction, and rely upon detoxification and colon cleansing to help make up the difference, as well as an even greater level of aerobic activity. In addition, you will find it useful to add strength training to your schedule, as any increase in muscle mass and tone will increase the amount of fat burned. On the end, however, you would do well to heed the old maxim that Rome wasn’t built in a day. You didn’t become 50 pounds overweight overnight, and you may be expecting too much if you try to lose it too quickly.

Bonus Tip: If you really want to Lose Weight fast, there is a proven step-by-step technique that can help. You can shed pounds every week with this method!
