3 Prevalent Problems With Weight Loss Products

April 21, 2009
By J White

Weight loss products offer great benefits in your battle to lose those extra pounds hanging on your waist. Used wisely, they can help speed up the loss and make the overall process much more bearable. However, there are three problems that you should keep in mind when using these aides. Learning about this now may save you from wasted time and effort, as well as from the future frustration that will surely follow.

Problems With Weight Loss Product

1. Don’t expect a weight loss product to be your substitute for proper eating and exercise. We all want to do things as easily as possible. It is only human nature. That being said, if you think by spending some money on the latest belly busting gizmo is going to help you drop a jean size or two, think again.

At best these products can assist, not substitute for the healthy eating and exercising habits you need to develop. Another key point that you need to keep in mind is that getting to and maintaining a healthy weight is a lifelong affair. Once this outlook is at the core of your thinking, you will not only learn to better use weight loss products, but also gain a better understanding of what it takes to live a healthy life.

2. Know the risk associated with the products. Some of these products seem to promise you the world, but at what cost. Ephedra, taken off the U.S. markets a few years ago, led to several deaths, including a professional athlete. Although, some of these products may not cause death, they can lead to extreme discomfort.

For instance, it is not uncommon to see on a label side effects such as diarrhea, insomnia, nervousness, anxiety, and/or rapid heartbeats. And some products are not even required to list some ingredients that may be harmful to you, many of which are labeled natural or herbal. So buyer beware.

3. Can cause overeating. Probably the most under reported problem associated with these products is the fact that they can cause you to overeat. Studies have shown that people typically eat more when the product is labeled low-fat or fat-free. The same can be said of those who take diet pills as well. This is because they forget it’s the total amount of calories that causes weight gain, not just fat intake.

Regardless of these facts, hardly anyone likes the idea of counting calories. But to not overeat, you need to be aware of the amount of calories you eat regardless of what type of weight loss product you use now or in the future. If you don’t, you could end up gaining more weight while on the products as oppose to not using it.

In short, used smartly, weight loss products can have you wearing your beach outfit sooner than by just dieting and exercising alone. But if you are not careful, they can just as easily keep you out of the outfit as well.
