Losing Water Weight with Extraordinary Flavor

One thing that keeps many of you from starting or sticking to your diet is the belief that you will have to give up taste. True. If salt is your favorite spice, then you might be hesitant to start. But with the following tips on adding flavor to your food, you may forget salt ever existed and start living a healthy low-sodium lifestyle.

But first, here some quick information on why using salt makes losing weight more difficult.

The sodium in salt, as well as other products, have been linked to water retention. The reason why sodium causes this retention is because your body uses it to regulate fluids to avoid dehydration. To do its job, sodium searches out excess fluids to regulate, thus causing the extra water weight.

If the shaker on your table was the only source of sodium, we probably wouldn’t have the problems it causes. Unfortunately high amounts are found in processed foods such as chips and deli meats, and also in products that are suppose to be healthy for us like canned vegetables. It seems as though almost everything we like to eat has high amounts of the element in it.

Fortunately there some easy things that you can do to cut down on your salt. First use herbs. Herb such as celery seeds, sage, thyme, rosemary and basil are just a few of the many spices that you can add to your cooking to bring out more flavor. Add one or mix several to a dish to create a flavor you enjoy.

Another method is to cook with fresh garlic, onions or bell peppers. Adding these to your dishes not only makes them taste better, there pleasant olfactory effect brings an added dimension to the enjoyment of your meal.

The method you use to cook can also add flavor to your food. To leave in more, steam your vegetables and your fish as well. Their natural juices alone can make the meal satisfying, but by adding herbs, you increase the flavor even more.

Lastly, you can add hot peppers to your meal. For a mild hot, try Jalapenos; to raise the temperature even more, try serranos; to cause an inferno in your mouth, go with cayennes; to cause thermonuclear reaction, go with habaneros. Seriously people, they’re hot!!

So there you have it, several ways to add flavor to your food without salt and lose excess water weight in the process. Follow these tips and not only will you lose weight, your overall health will improve as well.
