Vegetable Juice May Jump-Start Weight Loss

Here’s another nugget that you can add to your weight loss grab bag. Vegetable juice may help with your weight loss, according to a new study just out.

By drinking at least 8 ounces of vegetable juice as part of a calorie controlled heart-healthy diet, participants in the study lost 4 pounds over 12 weeks, while those who only followed the diet, lost only 1 pound.

As for why the juice was effective in causing extra weight loss, the researchers believe that it may help to reduce a person’s appetite.

The participant were individuals who had several risk factors related to their health including high fat around their stomach, high blood pressure and sugar, and high cholesterol. These factors put them at an increase risk for heart disease and diabetes.

The diet that they were told to followed was the DASH diet, which consist of lots of fruits and vegetables, low-fat diary, high fiber, and foods low in saturated fat. This is the diet proposed by the American Heart Association.

The results of the study should not be too surprising. Vegetable juice is low in sugar and is full of lots of micronutrients. It is these nutrients that help your body to metabolize or digest your food. Since the typical diet is low in vegetables, adding the juice supplied some of these missing nutrients.

Even though vegetable juice lacks the fiber found in whole vegetables, it is still a good way to supply your body with nutrients you may be missing. Plus some nutrients are more easily absorbed in juice form than whole.

So for faster weight loss, drink more vegetable juice. In fact, just look at it as just another option that you now have to help you reach your dieting goals.
