Best Ab Exercises With a Ball – A Great Place to Start

Exercise balls have been used successfully for a while now and are still a very good way to work out with minimal equipment. An exercise ball will help develop a strong abdominal area through directly working these muscles, but will also work other muscles. This will assist in overall weight loss by burning additional calories both during and after exercise.

To develop a great six-pack requires more than just doing endless sit-ups and leg lifts and hoping that they will materialize. There are a huge number of exercises that can be undertaken using a ball but the best ab exercises with ball are detailed below:-

Best Ab Exercises With Ball # 1

A good exercise to start with is to place your hands on a ball in a similar position to that you would normally use for push-ups when done on the floor. Once you have a stable position move one leg at a time in the direction of your chest. It is a good plan to work up to 15 times if possible but avoid over-straining.

The second ball exercise starts in the press-up position once again but involves moving the arms forward and dropping the torso towards the floor around 8″. This moves the weight through the shoulders, hold this position for up to a minute. Take a rest for around 30 sec before repeating 14 more times.

Once again assume the same starting position as a press-up but this time with feet up on the ball. Contract the ab muscles to move the feet closer and lift the hips. Again repeat for 15 repetitions.

Time now to turn over so that you are facing upward and lying on the ball with your lower-mid back area on the ball. Put your hands behind your head and then do a sit-up action. This exercise will work the upper abdominals more than the lower.

This on is similar to the last but with a sideways twist as you move to a sitting position. Lower back down so that you are parallel to the floor and then contract the abs again to twist and work the alternate side. Ideally you will not sit up fully but will be able to maintain some tension on the abdominals before repeating.

To work the lower abs begin with the ball between your legs. Hold you head, without pulling, so that the neck is supported. Then straighten your legs out in front of you, then lift a little towards your chest. Lower you legs without allowing the ball to touch the floor and then repeat.

In the introduction it was mentioned that there are lots of potential workouts that can incorporate ball work but those detailed above are some of the best ab exercises with ball. How-ever these detailed will specifically target the abdominal area and will be a great start.
