Eating Smalls Meals To Create A Natural Appetite Suppressant
Hunger is by far the biggest obstacle to overcome when losing weight. Unlike exercise, which you can finish in less than an hour, hunger can stay with you all day.
Fortunately there is a natural means to overcome this problem or at least keep it at bay. This simple method is the practice of eating several small meals a day. By making this your new eating behavior, this practice can serve as a natural appetite suppressant.
How does it work?
The way your body signals you to eat is by releasing the hunger hormone ghrelin. Ghrelin is produced in the cell lining of your stomach and also by cells in your brain. When you feel hungry, this hormone is present in your body in high levels. When your hunger subsides, the level of the hormone has lowered.
By eating several small meals throughout the day, you can help control your ghrelin level. This act of eating helps to keep the ghrelin-lowering process active throughout the day. Since dieting requires calorie restriction, you still may feel a bit hungry, but this feeling is far less than what would occurs if you let long periods of time past before you ate again.
Also, another common eating problem surfaces when you continue to let the ghrelin hormone rise to higher levels than would normally occur if you ate at regular intervals.
This problem has to do with the fact that since you are so hungry after these long periods of not eating, this passing of many hours between meals helps to intensify your cravings for high calorie, low-density foods, which creates a situation in which you are more apt to overeat.
In short, as mentioned above, you may still experience some hunger. But, this appetite suppressant eating practice significantly lowers the hunger-causing ghrelin hormones, which will hopefully allow you to eat less, and thus bring you one step closers to reaching your weight loss goals.
