Obesity
The Truth About Obesity is More Than Just What You Eat
If you are 20% above your body mass index (BMI), you are considered obese. The accumulation of fats in your body makes you more prone to have serious diseases. What could have been the reasons that made you overweight aside from overeating?
There are different grounds that make a person eat more than necessary and have excessive fat deposits.
First and foremost, consuming too much calories can lead to obesity. It does not necessarily mean that what you consume most are fats. No, most of what you have eaten is composed of carbohydrates, or polymers of sugars. These come from sweetened drinks and eating in fast foods.
The coming of convenience devices such as televisions, washing machines and computers make our lives easier but inactive. Less activity means fewer calories burned. When you eat too much and work too little, there is a greater chance for you to be obese. Also, exercise and movement affects the production and function of hormones that help your body digest food. Stable insulin levels are closely associated with exercise.
People who are more active at night usually do not get enough sleep and are predisposed to being obese. This is true for adults and children. Getting less sleep increases your risk of being overweight. This is because sleep deprivation increases appetite due to changes in hormones. You tend to produce more of the hormone that stimulates appetite (ghrelin) and less of the hormone that suppresses appetite (leptin).
If you do overeat, move more, and sleep less, then you have a greater possibility to get obese. If you observe these things on yourself, try to change your habits so that you can stay away of becoming plump. If you eat more, you need to burn more of those calories so they don’t accumulate in your body. Get enough sleep always. The secret to maintaining a healthy body is moderation and being conscious with what you do.
