Our Nation is Getting Fatter! – But You Can Buck the Trend!
There are a lot of people interested in weight loss today, however our nation keeps getting fatter. But you don’t have to be a part of the over-weight crowd!
A Peek At Our Nation’s Fat Problem!
If you are presently overweight and have failed at previous weight loss efforts, you are not alone!
Approximately 70% of our population is presently over weight. That means that close to 100 million people in the United States are not controlling their weight…but their weight is controlling them.
The sad thing is that since the 1950′s this failure at weight loss has been increasing each year…our nation just keeps getting fatter. This overweight problem has caused a tremendous hit on the health of our population. So, along with this national weight-gain comes poor health.
What Is The Cause Of This “National Fatness?”
How in the world can a whole nation get fat and be so lackadaisical about weight loss? What is causing this “overweight epidemic?” Well, there are several collective reasons for this problem and here is the most obvious three:
- Fast-food mania. I bet you knew that was coming, but I have to start off with one of the most obvious reasons. So why has fast foods gotten such a grip on our society. Three good reasons are that fast foods are convenient, tasty, and inexpensive (but fattening)! That was enough to divert our population from healthy eating to convenient eating…and now we are paying the price.
By the way, a lot of other formerly healthy countries have caught fast-food mania too and are also losing their national health.
- An inactive lifestyle. Thanks to television and computers, this nation has become very sedentary. When I was a kid, we constantly played outside, ran around, road our bikes, roller-skated, swam, etc., etc.
And the adults were always doing some sort of manual work and walking around our neighborhoods. There used to be a family grocery store within a few blocks of everyone’s house and so everybody walked to the store and visited neighbors in the process. However, today it is not uncommon to see someone blocking traffic to get a parking place a two spaces closer to the store doors so that they don’t have to walk too far. Less exercise means more fat.
- Supermarket convenience foods. It’s so easy to go to the supermarket and just start buying whatever looks good…without considering the calories involved. Frozen pizza, TV dinners, ice cream, snack foods, cupcakes, candy, and a host of other fattening stuff. And the manufacturers know how to package their calorie-laden food to look very tempting. More calories means more fat and no weight loss.
There are more reasons for this nations failure at weight loss, but the above are obvious.
How To Buck The Fattening Trend
The clue to bucking this fattening trend is actually in the list above. Read it again, and let it sink into your head and heart. Then determine to do the opposite of what the rest of the nation is doing:
- Stay away from fast foods and eat wholesome, fresh, low calorie foods.
- Get plenty of exercise.
- Make a list of healthy, fresh foods to buy when you go grocery shopping and buy only what is on the list. Resist impulsive buying with all your might.
- And while you are at it, eat smaller portions for greater weight loss and to get that weight down to where you are looking good!
So there you have it. Instead of growing larger along with the rest of the populous, you can be the one who stands out in the crowd and is looking good!
